We had our 1st official meeting today, thank you Jen for getting this off the ground, and to Melanie for hosting. We are all very passionate about our gardens and determined to make them work!
NOTES:
- Fall Gardening Tips:
- Seedlings need 4 hours of sun per day, too hot now to start in soil, water 2x per day until sprout, then daily
- Need sterile soil for seedlings
- Do not need to do seedlings in spring due to mild temperatures.
- PLANT NOW: Carrots, Black Eyed Peas, Edamame, Lettuce, Spinach,
- Renfrows Hardware: Class August 26th $20 - www.renfrowhardware.com
- Matthews Farmers Market - Sat. 7AM and Wed. 11-1
- www.windcrestorganics.com
- Always map out garden - envision mature plants to ensure proper placement (sun, etc.)
- Tomatoes:
- As pinchers grow, remove
- remove bottom 12" of tomato plants (all but Romas)
- After you have removed entire bunch of tomatoes from branch, it will produce no more, remove branch, then let new pinchers grow from bottom of plant
- Crack lines on tomatoes = overwatering
- Remove ALL tomatoes from plant when 1st frost threatens, or say "goodbye" to your crop
